The military martial art they developed was first called Defendu and contained techniques that were designed for self-defense and restraining techniques to be used by police forces. During WWII this art was altered to focus on lethal techniques and the name was then changed to Close Quarter Combat (CQC). This new version was taught at a highly secretive location near Oshawa Ontario called 'Camp X'. Defendu/CQC was taught to secret agents and the forerunner to Special Forces in Canada, USA and Great Britain. The Canadian military now has several fighting and self-defense arts currently in use including an evolved version of CQC. I have, with the help of many experts in their respective fields, prepared a training methodology derived from a distillation of the non-lethal techniques from contemporary CQC. With the help of a modern understanding of the mind and body, found a way to teach these techniques scientifically considering the psychology and physiology of learning a martial art. I believe this carries on the tradition of Defendu and follows the premise in the title of a book published by William Fairburn in 1926 titled 'Defendu, scientific self-defense'. The reason I propose the new version to be called 'DEFENDU 2010' is that I believe the name 'Defendu' pays tribute to the founder by identifying it's roots (Defendu), traces the history to the end of the name use in WWII (change of name and purpose to CQC). Adding '2010' denotes that this older art has been resurrected and altered for possible use in Canada starting in 2010. I believe this demonstrates that there is an explicit difference between the two. If the Martial Arts portion of the Spartan Project 1.0 is adopted, I plan to transfer rights over to the Canadian military. If the Spartan Project 1.0 is not adopted, I plan to transfer the name and teach the art through a non-profit athletic association that is still in it's planning stages called ' 'The Spartans Martial Arts Association Of Canada'.
